28 November - 4 December 2004 The Pain & Policy Studies Group recently hosted a 5-person delegation from Romania to continue collaboration on a project aimed at examining the Romanian health and regulatory system for making available opioid analgesics for pain relief and improving palliative care in that country. The delegation included prominent oncologists and pain management/palliative care specialists, as well as drug regulatory experts from the Ministry of Health. The delegation conducted an analysis and revision of the
existing opioid prescribing regulations that date from the Communist era.
They also provided a Grand Rounds presentation on the palliative care
situation in Romania to an interested audience from the University of
Wisconsin Hospital & Clinics (UWHC); toured the local hospice facility;
and met with several distinguished health care professionals from the
UWHC. A reception was held at the UWHC in honor of our Romanian colleagues.
