Leadership

Principal Investigator
School of Medicine and Public Health Dean Robert N. Golden, MD, is the principal investigator of the UW-GCRC. With authority that transcends departmental lines, he communicates with NIH on broad institutional matters relating to the UW-GCRC grant.
Director
UW-GCRC Director Marc K. Drezner, MD, has overall administrative and scientific responsibility for the operation of the UW-GCRC. He serves as a resource for investigators seeking to perform clinical research on the center. Dr. Drezner is Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Research, head of the section of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism and a professor of medicine at the UW-Madison. He is also Director of the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research.
Assistant Director for Quality Assurance, Training
Nizar N. Jarjour, MD, serves as assistant director for quality assurance and training. Dr. Jarjour chairs the Interdisciplinary Quality Assurance Committee.
Assistant Director for Pediatrics

Christine Seroogy , MD, serves as assistant director for pediatrics. Dr. Seroogy is responsible for the coordination of research activities involving pediatric subjects at the UW Children's Hospital, and at Meriter Hospital/Park.

Research Subject Advocate

Yoram Shenker, MD, and Margo Hoover-Regan, MD, serve as a research subject advocates who are responsible for patient safety monitoring of the the studies run through UW-GCRC.

Assistant Director for Training and Education

Lori Bakken, PhD, serves as assistant director for educational activities. She is affiliated with the K30 award and the Clinical Investigator Preparatory Program (CIPP). Her responsibilities include the overview of educational program primarily for young investigators, review of protocols for educational components, review of K23 applications to ensure appropriate educational efforts in study design, bioethics and grant writing, and review of CReFF and medical student applications to this program.

Biostatistics/Informatics Core Director

Jason Fine, DSc, is the UW-GCRC director for both the biostatistics and informatics areas. He serves as chief biostatistics reviewer and consultant to the Proposal Review Committee (PRC), which examines and votes on the science, including statistical accuracy, of all submitted protocols. In addition, he and his colleague Feng-Chang Lin, MS, work with investigators on statistics before and after their submissions.

Administrative Director

Paulette Sacksteder is the UW-GCRC administrator, and is responsible for day-to-day operations at the center. She administers grant applications, oversees reports and protocols, is responsible for financial operations, and communicates with investigators and the public. With the program director, associate director, and nurse manager, she develops center policies for the investigators, staff, and patients.

Clinical Research Nurse Manager

Mary Jane Williams, RN, BSN, MPH, serves as nurse manager for the UW-GCRC patient unit on D6/6. She directs the 16 research nurses, oversees protocol implementation on the unit, ensures patient safety, and works closely with investigators and their study coordinators to ensure well-run studies. Ms. Williams also works with the UW Hospital & Clinics on unit finances, supervision, and nursing excellence.
